Up to 1956 the course was offered by the Department of Technology of Drug Forms and Galenic Preparations. In 1956-58 the course was under the responsibility of the Department of Organization of Health Services and Medicine headed by Prof. A. Panev. Later the course was offered by the Medical University and was read by part-time lecturers. The Department was established in 1972. Some of its founder members worked for the National Pharmaceutical Network and collaborated with the Department of General and Industrial Pharmaceutical Technology while others were members of the research group “Pharmaceutical Network” under the auspices of the State Pharmaceutical Corporation. Heads of the Department since its establishment: Associate Prof. Mihail Milev, Prof. Drumi Bainov, and Prof. Dr. Zlatka Dimitrova. Applied Mathematics - II semester (lectures - 15, seminars - 30); Mathematical Modeling and Computer Stochastics III semester (seminars -30); Pharmaceutical Legislation, management and marketing - VII - VIII semesters (lectures - 60, seminars - 90); Medical Equipment - VII semester (seminars - 45); Pharmacoeconomic Methods for Assessment and Optimizing of Drug Therapy- IX semester (lectures- 30, seminars 45); Pharmaceutical care- IX semester (lectures- 30, seminars 45). Electives: Current Issues in Drug Usage; Statistico-mathematical Methods for Drug Needs Analysis; Introduction to Pharmacoepidemiology. Postgraduate courses in: Organization and Economics of the Distribution and Pharmaceutical Networks; Clinical Pharmacy. Courses offered at: Undergraduate level (regular and extramural students); Postgraduate level. History of Pharmacy and Museum Samples; Legal, Organizational and Managerial Issues of Distribution of Drugs; Drug Needs and Drug Usage - Analysis and Prognoses; Pharmaceutical Personnel - Management, Assessment and Prognoses; Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmacoepidemiology; Information and Communication; Ordinary Differential Equations - Application in Pharmacy; Protective Polymer Coating of Medical Instruments. The Department is the only academic and research unit in Bulgaria which studies the organizational, economic and managerial issues of drug distribution and use. The Chair collaborates with members of inter-national scientific organizations and associations.
